After being shortlisted among 21 members to the finals, RAKAA Student, Alya Ali AlShemaili – Grade 10B, claimed 2nd Place at the Regional Atlab Competition as the only participant from Ras Al Khaimah, joining 50 other students in the competition from all over the UAE.
The Atlab Competition was based on students creating their own application whilst learning the fundamentals of computer engineering. The theme for the competition this year was “Well-being” in which students had to identify a real-life problem that focuses on Physical, Emotional, and Social well-being, and create an application which helps solve the problem.
There were three stages to the competition; Learn, Identify, Create, and Share. During the first stage, students learned the basics of programming and creating an App through 3 online sessions. In the second stage, students had to identify a real life problem related to the theme of the competition. Students then had to create their own App which solved the problem that they have identified during the second stage. Finally, students presented their created Apps to the Judges.
Alya was very excited and enthusiastic about entering the competition, and as a result of being the second place winner, she has received a Cash prize.
“The reason I have entered this competition was to wisely invest my time and effort, develop my skills in this field, and to give the benefit of the society” – Alya AlShemaili
